Your iPhone is now a Kindle
Amazon has just released an iPhone app for reading eBooks on your phone. On the heels of annoucning their brand new Kindle 2, this should only further cement Amazon as the leader in digital book delivery.
There are a few problems with the application but it is understandable. With Apples terms of service for iPhone applications, you cannot sell third party stuff through an application. It’s smart on Apple’s part, but it requires you to purchase Amazon’s eBooks on their website and then go to your iPhone to read it (you could do it all on the iPhone with Safari, but that can be a pain sometimes).
On the other hand, Amazon has a great feature that lets you sync where you are in a book between multiple devices. Say you start reading a book on your Kindle. You can go on a trip with only your iPhone and pick up where you left off. They call this feature “Whispersync” and it could come in handy for you Kindle owners. I personally don’t own a Kindle, but I’m going to try this and see if I like it. I’ve recently been getting into audiobooks and I love them. Audiobooks allow you to do other things while still “reading” the book. If you’re interested in that, check out Audible.com (also owned by Amazon).
