Conficker Computer Virus Set for April 1st

File:Conficker.svgThere is a nasty little virus that has been attacking computers for quite some time and is set to be released on April 1st.  The risk of catching this virus is very high.  No one is really sure exactly what is going to happen but they do know that this virus is going to do some serious damage when it attacks.  Right now Microsoft has $250,000 bounty for anyone who rats the owner of this virus out and there have been no leads as of this point.  What you can do to protect your system is make sure you have all your virus software (Norton, Symantec, AVG etc) is up to date with virus definitions, and also make sure if you have a computer running Windows you have all your automatic updates downloaded and installed.

If you are not sure that your computer is up to date, go to your start menu, then control panel, then automatic updates do a check to make sure you are.  I am not 100% sure that this is strictly limited to Windows but I do know if you have a Mac you are less likely to be infected.  The good thing about this virus is that it can be removed.  See this site if you do get infected by this virus.  Let us know if you have questions or concerns.  Always remember that if you are shopping online when you are getting ready to checkout make sure the URL starts with https:// instead of just http://. This means it is a secure site, and every reputable site will have this security.  Also don’t go downloading stuff you are unsure of the source (i.e. screen savers, desktop backgrounds, or music from random sources).
